Parveen Shakir a well known Pakistani poetess also known by her pen name "Beena". Born in Karachi, Pakistan, on November 24, in the year 1952, she came from a well-educated and culturally diverse family. She showed a strong love of language, literature, and poetry at a young age. Her unique voice was greatly influenced by her early exposure to both modern literary trends and classical Urdu poetry. Parveen's upbringing was characterized by a strong emphasis on education and artistic expression, which inspired her to pursue her passion for reading and academic excellence. She soon became a promising young poet with a distinctively feminine and sensitive viewpoint, which was uncommon in Urdu poetry at the time, after her poetic abilities blossomed during her school years.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Parveen Shakir was an exceptionally talented student who put a lot of effort into her studies. She graduated from the University of Karachi with two master's degrees: one in and one in English literature. Because of her strong academic record and love of language, she was also awarded a scholarship to study public administration at Harvard University in the United States. After starting her professional career as a teacher, Parveen quickly joined Pakistan's Central Superior Services (CSS), one of the most prominent government career tracks in the nation. She held a number of significant positions, including those at the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and the Customs Department. She published several poetry collections that were widely praised, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her literary endeavors in spite of the demands of her bureaucratic career. At that time the younger generation got motivated by her, to make a perfect balance between her poetic career and her government job. She was praised for her radiance and elegance.

She tied knot in the year 1976 with civil servant Dr. Nasir Ahmad. Later they got blessed with a baby boy named as Murad Ali. Significant challenges, such as incompatibility and a purported lack of support for her literary aspirations, plagued the marriage, though. The marriage finally ended in divorce, which was a socially and emotionally significant decision, particularly in the conservative society of the time. Her poetry, which delicately yet effectively conveyed the silent suffering and tenacity of women, was influenced by the anguish, disillusionment, and internal struggle she experienced during her marriage. Her personal life is intricately entwined with the themes of love, betrayal, and empowerment in her work, as her verses frequently express a desire for comprehension, respect, and emotional companionship.

HER BURIAL

She passed away in a car accident in Islamabad, Pakistan, on December 26, 1994, when she was only 42 years old. Due to poor visibility and slick roads, her car struck a bus on the way to work. Her untimely and unexpected death stunned the country and created a huge hole in Urdu literature. Public outcry was also raised about the incident's contributing factors, which included insufficient traffic laws and road safety. A significant number of admirers, poets, and dignitaries attended Parveen Shakir's funeral, demonstrating the profound influence she had on society. She is resting in Graveyard, Islamabad. Her poetry endures, touching readers of all ages and solidifying her status as one of the most cherished and significant voices in Urdu poetry, despite the sudden end of her life.
